Advice and Recommendations

1.     While in Makka Makkaramah and Medina Munawwarah, spend as much time as possible in Ibadaat. Every act of worship and good deeds done including giving charity etc, carries multiple rewards in the ‘Haramain Sharifain’

2.     There are many distractions such as shopping malls, jewellery shops and lavish hotels surrounding the sacred mosques, however we need to stay away from them and spend as much time inside the sacred mosques as possible. Remember the hadith of Rasulullah (salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam) that the most desirable place in the Sight of Allah swt is the ‘Masjid’ and the most undesirable is the ‘marketplace’. We may never get another chance to come again!

3.     Always remember to observe complete adab – etiquettes while staying in Makka Makkaramah and Medina Munawwarah, Every inch of these sacred cities is blessed and we must remember that our behaviour must always reflect this.

4.     A friend advised me before I left for Umrah, to pack abit of ‘patience’ along with the other necessities. This may have been the most important advice I had. The blessed mosques and most places of ziyaraat will be very busy and therefore some pushing and shoving will arise. Please be patient and observe the adab of the blessed places. Brothers and sisters from all over the world are gathered together and with so many barriers of language, culture etc there needs to be patience shown towards each other. We must not forget where we are and the reason for us being here. (While performing tawaaf in Masjid-e-Harem’, please do not push anyone for the sake of reaching the ‘black stone’ – Hajr-e-Aswad, as this could invalidate your Ibaadat. We have to observe the sanctuary of the ‘Harem’.)

5.     Many people complain about the behaviour of the Arab people especially the guards at the Sacred Mosques, however we must remember they have a difficult duty and therefore their behaviour may seem extreme at times. We love Arab people, as Sayyidina Rasulullah (salla lahu alayhi wa’ale hi wasallam) was raised as one of them. Please remember this and forgive them if they behave rudely towards you and love them for the sake of Allah (swt) and His beloved Messenger (saw).

6.     Please be thankful for every moment, every second Allah swt granted you in the Most blessed cities on earth. We must not complain if we are mis-treated by anyone or the hotels are not to our standard but we much praise everything in Makka Makkaramah and Medina Munawwarah and love these blessed cities. In authentic hadith it is confirmed that a branch of faith includes the wish to ‘live in Medina and die in Medina’.
